Dear fellow sojourners,
When we stepped forth on this journey, we did so with the promise to share in all that unfolds along the way. With this update, that promise will be fulfilled and committed to in full.
To begin, since our launch we have completed two significant early works in our digital storytelling catalogue:
Firstly, bringing to life The Raven, the gothic masterpiece penned by Edgar Allan Poe. With it, we explored the shortform video format, breaking the poem down stanza by stanza into what felt almost like eighteen self-contained miniature stories — though each leading hauntingly, inevitably, to the tale’s crescendo and ultimate conclusion. In doing so, we found that the shortform structure did not diminish the poem but instead revealed its architecture: each stanza carrying its own turn of mood, image, and dread, while still drawing the viewer toward the inevitable refrain. TikTok has proven to be the ideal vessel for this content, though for archival, the long-form work alongside a combined playlist of shorts finds its home on YouTube.
When this particular piece commenced, we had originally forged a separate channel for the Sojourner of Worlds project. There was, and to some extent remains, merit in a channel focused specifically on poetry and literature; yet as publication unfolded, it became clear that separating the project too firmly from the studio risked dividing the broader offering of Aetherborne Creations. In response, the series was brought across to the consolidated Aetherborne Creations channel, allowing the work to sit more naturally within the studio’s wider body of digital productions. It was a useful early lesson in brand architecture: that while individual projects may each possess their own spirit, they must also strengthen the house from which they emerge. Such is the journey – to plan carefully, observe honestly, adapt when needed, and carry on.
Then came the audiobook release of The Alchemist, a fitting choice for a debut perhaps, as it too was one of the very first short stories written by H.P. Lovecraft. This was a sheer pleasure to produce, with some minor unobtrusive tinkering to help present the harrowing tale as if it was being recounted by the protagonist himself; our dear Comte Antoine de C–, whose veiled surname is itself a small relic of an older literary convention: a veil we are content to leave undisturbed, preserving the Comte’s secret as though it were entrusted to the page itself. Behind the scenes, we can share that several versions of this story were recorded, but the final rendition is one of a measured elderly statesman setting his affairs to account. Narration, in this sense, became an act of interpretation: a decision about whose voice, memory, and burden the listener is being invited to inhabit, as though the Comte himself had some final matter yet to settle. The question that might remain is, for what? Only time might tell…
This audiobook, we are happy to share, has helped inform the path we will take in the future for works of similar kind: to let them be experienced and enjoyed by lovers of literature and the classics around the world. Listeners can now find it on a growing range of platforms, including:
New Worlds ahead in Digital Storytelling
Beyond the realm of literature and the spoken word, the studio has been exploring partnerships to move forward with our entry into the digital games space. This has progressed into game design and pre-production for a couple of projects including what will be our flagship serious game, as well as something a bit more experimental. Whilst it is too early to share the exact nature of these titles, it is something we look forward to unveiling in the coming months. One hint we can share is that we’ll be exploring the subjects of food, cooking, and nutrition in an entirely creative direction where the fun comes first.
Moving forward with the lessons learned, we look to establish more regular updates in line with the vision of a shared journey. To this end, The Memoirs will be developed into a monthly newsletter format: a place for studio news, useful resources, behind-the-scenes reflections, production insights, creative discoveries, and notes from across the worlds of games, narration, literature, and digital storytelling.
The aim is for each edition to offer something of value: whether a glimpse behind the curtain, a resource worth keeping, an insight uncovered through the work, or an opportunity to take part in what comes next. Once newsletter sign-ups are made available through the website, we also intend to offer select subscriber extras, beginning perhaps with a behind-the-scenes offering prepared especially for those who choose to journey with us more closely.
To wrap up, we look forward to sharing more with you as we establish a reliable cadence and continue gathering the stories, lessons, and discoveries that emerge along the way.
